Dr. Archelle Georgiou combines her deep knowledge of clinical medicine with a breadth of experience in business and health-care administration to pursue her passion for simplifying the health care system.
As a practicing physician and a corporate managed-care executive, Dr. Georgiou learned and leveraged the value of simple and compelling communication to influence consumers' personal health care behaviors, as well as driving health-care purchasing decisions and business growth.
Dr Georgiou left UnitedHealth Group after 14 years to create Georgiou Consulting, LLC (www.georgiouconsulting.com). Her focus is using the power of language, data, and technology to translate complex medical information into meaningful health-care messages for a broad spectrum of audiences and clients. She works with health-care organizations to crystallize their outcomes into meaningful and differentiating messages that drive growth and profitability. In addition, Dr. Georgiou established her own company to help consumers make better health-care decisions. MyHealthCompare (www.myhealthcompare.com) offers a free consumer website that makes it easy for consumers to rank and compare hospitals.
One of Archelle's greatest joys is using the media to communicate directly with the public. She conducts a Fox TV health care segment in the Twin Cities two times per week, where she offers viewers a practical and balanced analysis of the latest health-care news headlines, often translating the information into practical tips viewers can use to take better care of themselves. Some of her other media highlights include being a guest on Oprah and Friends with Dr. Mehmet Oz, working with the National Osteoporosis Foundation on the Know My Bones national media campaign, and offering state-by-state analyses of America's Health Rankings to dozens of media outlets across the nation. Dr. Georgiou frequently speaks to clinical, business, and consumer audiences on topics related to health and wellness, innovative care models, and consumerism. Her unique and engaging lectures include topics such as Integrated Medicine: From Madness to Mainstream, where she addresses the mental, emotional, and physical aspects of the healing process and Confessions of A TV Doctor: The Role and Impact of the Media in Healthcare. In Spring 2009, Dr. Georgiou was a medical correspondent on the Blue Zones international expedition to Ikaria, Greece, where she helped explore the secrets of longevity. She continues to speak about the expedition results, translating messages for daily life and challenging audiences to make some simple changes that can help them live a healthier and more meaningful life.
Dr. Georgiou is a Senior Fellow with the University of Minnesota Center for Spirituality & Healing, where she focuses on expanding the adoption of integrated medicine. She continues to spread her knowledge in the public-policy arena as a Senior Fellow with Newt Gingrich's Center for Health Transformation, a think tank for fresh, innovative changes in health care. She is on the Business Advisory Team and a regular contributor to a health and wellness resource for women. She is also on the Board of the Society for Women's Health Research.
Dr. Georgiou graduated from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She trained and practiced in internal medicine in Northern California, before transitioning into healthcare administration and policy. Archelle lives in Wayzata, Minnesota with her husband and three children.
